We were tasked with transforming a stunning penthouse situated in the vibrant city center. Boasting high ceilings, extensive glazing, and a continuous terrace encircling its perimeter, the vision was to create a space that effortlessly catered to urban living, doubling as both a primary residence and a premier venue for private events and gatherings. Our objective was to showcase the space's versatile nature, ensuring it captivates both residents and visitors alike.
The penthouse was thoughtfully divided into two distinct zones, as per the client's specifications. The private area houses the primary bedroom unit and supporting facilities, while the expansive open living space serves as a versatile venue for various events. With 3200 sq ft of living space and an additional 2300 sq ft open terrace, it offers an immense area for meetings, presentations, parties, and more.
To create separation, new partitions were introduced at the back, forming three distinct volumes, all clad in blackened steel sheets. An intriguing aspect of the design involves two unique features wrapped with illuminated glass walls. As you step into the entrance, a gently curved illuminated wall serves as a backdrop for a captivating bird statue, creating an artistic focal point. Ascending to the entresol level, this illuminated wall envelops an intimate sitting area, fostering an atmosphere of coziness.
On the other side, a striking metal spiral staircase takes center stage as the second feature of the project. Accented by a half-circle illuminated wall behind it, the staircase leads to the entresol level, further enhancing the overall visual appeal of the space.
Our vision for the interior design was to embrace the rugged charm of modern loft architecture, in line with the building's character. The color palette revolves around dark, black, and grey hues, deliberately avoiding bright accents to instill a sense of tranquility and solidity within the loft. Throughout the space, you won't find wood finishes; instead, we opted for raw steel, concrete, paint, and fabrics to dominate the design.
Maintaining an authentic industrial ambiance, we left the structural concrete elements exposed, spanning from the entresol to the columns and ceilings. The ceilings showcase extensive ventilation, and we intentionally revealed the electric wiring and fire systems, reinforcing the loft's robustness. While retaining this sense of openness, separate ceiling panels were thoughtfully integrated above the floor podiums, housing light and audio fixtures while enhancing acoustic comfort.
To further enrich the acoustic experience, we introduced vertical felt panels in the sitting and dining areas, ensuring a harmonious and pleasant atmosphere throughout the space. The result is a rough, yet sophisticated living environment that complements the essence of modern loft living.
While the primary living space boasts a generous open layout, it has been thoughtfully divided into distinct functional zones, each artfully elevated on podiums that find their reflection in the ceiling panels.
Upon entering, you'll find an inviting dining zone with two separate podiums housing kitchen islands and dining tables. The impressive kitchen island, cleverly divided into two smaller islands, serves as a space for occasional resident cooking, as well as a serving and final preparation table during events. Tucked away in the depths of the loft, a full-spec professional chef's kitchen is ready to serve the needs. The dining area features two separate tables, accommodating up to 14 guests in its standard configuration.
At the opposite end of the loft, an expansive sitting area greets you with ample sectional sofas and armchairs, providing versatility for various scenarios.
Transitioning between the above-mentioned zones, a stylish bar area beckons with direct access to the outside patio. Stretching along the space, the long island encompasses all the necessary appliances and a well-curated selection of beverages. A barman behind the island can serve guests, while bar chairs can be added in front of the island. This area also houses a DJ setup, making it the vibrant center of any event.
Above, the entresol offers both a captivating overview of the loft and stunning city views. This level features more intimate and secluded sitting areas, allowing for moments of relaxation and contemplation.
The outdoor space in this loft is exceptionally spacious, comprising a perimetral balcony and an open patio.
The patio has been envisioned as the heart of the loft, centrally located and visible from every corner of the primary living space. In the midst of the bustling city, the patio aims to create a green and natural oasis. To achieve this, we replaced the pavement with soil mounds, adorned with lush green shrubs and trees. The left side features a cozy sitting zone, while the right side boasts a small breakfast table. This serene spot allows you to escape the city's hustle and immerse yourself in tranquility.
The perimetral balcony has been left uncluttered, featuring two functional areas that complement indoor activities. In front of the dining zone, an outdoor dining table awaits, extendable when needed for larger gatherings. Overlooking the sitting area, you'll find comfortable sun lounges, offering a perfect spot for relaxation. To ensure privacy, part of the balcony belonging to the primary bedroom is cleverly concealed behind a corner.
